SAO Alicization Lycoris: How to Unlock Sacred Arts

Fans of the Sword Art Online anime who have experienced the Alicization arc are no doubt familiar with the concept of sacred arts. For those coming at this fresh, they are a sort of magic that involves creation of an element, such as light, steel, wind by gathering the spatial/magical resources in the air. Anyone who has just started Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris probably wants to know just how to unlock sacred arts in SAO Alicization Lycoris, so this is the guide for you.

How to Unlock Sacred Arts in Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris

Despite there being mentions of sacred arts in both dialogue and parts of the UI early on, using them isn’t unlocked from the start of the game.

On day 379/8 HE in chapter 1-3, you will begin the main quest That’s What I Like to Hear. This quest starts with a second extracurricular outing with Sortiliena and Eugeo, and there will be a tutorial for using sacred arts as soon as you are outside of the Swordcraft Academy.

Not only are there not any conditions to be met before you can use them, but you can use all eight right off the bat and there’s not really any cooldown time between uses.

The eight types are:

• Luminous
• Wind
• Heat
• Steel
• Darkness
• Crystal
• Ice
• Water

To use, press R2 for PS4, RT for Xbox, and Lshift for PC. Select which art you want to charge it, and then release the trigger/key to close the radial menu. The sacred art will then be stored for whenever you want to unleash it by once again pressing the trigger/key.
