The Team Go Rocket Leaders are no simple opponents. They’re going to give you a harder time than those lowly grunts, but with the knowledge in this guide, you’ll learn how to beat Cliff in Pokemon Go.
How to Beat Team Go Rocket Leader Cliff in Pokemon Go
With proper preparation, Cliff’s normally formidable team won’t stand a chance against yours. Luckily his choices aren’t very diverse which makes building your team fairly easy. Here are all of Cliff’s possible Pokemon:
- Pokemon 1
- Pinsir (Bug)
- Pokemon 2
- Marowak (Ground)
- Omastar (Rock/Water)
- Electivire (Electric)
- Pokemon 3
- Tyranitar (Rock/Dark)
- Swampert (Water/Ground)
- Torterra (Grass/Ground)
This is probably the toughest Pinsir you’ll ever face. Even a relatively good Fire-type like Charizard might struggle in this matchup. You’ll need a very strong Fire Pokemon to take down this Bug. A solid Fairy may even do the trick since it resits Pinsir’s Counter.
Best Picks: Togekiss, Ho-Oh, Darmanitan, Chandelure, Moltres
You’ll probably want to switch your Pokemon once you see Marowak in the battle. Togekiss is still a solid option here if you had it in against Pinsir. But this time, Grass- and Water-types are going to be your best bets.
Best Picks: Togekiss, Gyarados, Tropius, Torterra, Leafeon
Just like with Marowak, you’ll likely want to switch out to a Grass-type Pokemon. Do not keep Togekiss in since Omastar’s Rock Throw could easily inflict massive damage against the typically bulky Fairy/Flying Pokemon.
Best Picks: Leafeon, Ludicolo, Torterra, Meganium, Venusaur
Monotype Electric Pokemon only have one weakness, Ground-type moves. It doesn’t allow for much creativity, but at least all the best Ground Pokemon are hard counters to Electivire. Just be careful with Rhyperior since it gets hit hard by Low Sweep.
Best Picks: Garchomp, Groudon, Excadrill, Golurk, Rhyperior
The ideal Pokemon to run into here is Tyranitar. Even though it’s the strongest of the three, you’ll already have a Pokemon in that’s decent against Tyranitar. But if you really want to switch, then a Fighting-type will be your best option.
Best Picks: Conkeldurr, Blaziken, Heracross, Kyogre, Lucario
If you don’t win the lottery, then you’ll run into Swampert or Torterra. Swampert can easily be taken down by a good Grass-type. Just be careful if you have a Torterra out there since it doesn’t resist this mudboy’s Water-type attacks.
Best Picks: Leafeon, Ludicolo, Torterra, Tropius, Meganium
Torterra will get thoroughly defeated by Ice-types. Just be careful if you want to choose Mamoswine since it’s weak to Torterra’s Grass moves. Brave Bird Ho-Oh is an excellent option too. Any powerful Flying-type Pokemon that has Fire attacks will be good here (Fire Fang Salamence, Flamethrower Togekiss).
Best Picks: Ho-Oh, Regice, Articuno, Salamence, Togekiss
Best Pokemon Team
This one is tough. Not because you’ll have a difficult time, but just because there are so many options. For sure you’ll want to have one solid Fighting Pokemon, but then the rest of your team is up in the air.
My ideal team for beating Cliff is:
- Togekiss (Charm|Flamethrower)
- Leafeon (Razor Leaf|Leaf Blade)
- Articuno (Frost Breath|Ice Beam)
- Ho-Oh (Steel Wing|Brave Bird)
- Torterra (Razor Leaf|Frenzy Plant)
- Conkeldurr (Counter|Dynamic Punch)
If you don’t have all those Pokemon, then most combinations of good Fighting-, Ice-, Water-, Grass-, Fire-, or Flying-types should be able to get the job done.
