Animal Crossing New Horizons Amazing Painting: How to Get, Real & Fake Differences & More

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

One of Animal Crossing’s sneakiest characters makes his big return with New Horizon’s Update V1.2.0. Jolly Redd is back with his Treasure Trawler selling wares, with a bunch of artwork fit for display in any museum. But you’ll want to approach each sale with caution — as Isabelle has warned, shady art dealers often peddle fake goods. Here we’ll explain everything you need to know about the Amazing Painting in Animal Crossing New Horizons.

How to Get the Amazing Painting in Animal Crossing New Horizons

Redd’s artwork are items exclusive to his selection, and all of them sell for the same price; the Amazing Painting can only be purchased for 4,980 Bells. Although, you could technically obtain it by trading with other players who are willing to drop it off for you.

If you’re wondering where exactly Redd is, first of all, you need to make sure that you’ve initiated the actual questline that necessitates him. For that to occur, you’ll need to have been donating to the museum regularly and have spoken with Blathers about featuring art at the museum. You’ll then hear Isabelle issue the warning we mentioned above about fake artwork. Now you’re ready to find Redd.

Redd will visit your island once per week, landing over on its north beach. You can hop aboard his boat and check out what he has in stock, which rotates randomly each time he arrives. If you’re lucky, he’ll have the Amazing Painting; otherwise, check back next time.

Real and Fake Differences

Before you pull the trigger on purchasing the painting, however, you’ll want to make sure you know how to spot the differences between the real and fake versions of it.

The art connoisseurs among you will recognize the Amazing Painting as Rembrandt’s The Night Watch. The key difference to look out for between the real and fake versions of the painting is that the individual in the middle isn’t wearing a hat in the fake version. Only purchase the painting if the man is wearing a hat. See the below picture.

You need to make sure there are two hunters between the trees. If you cannot see the hunter that we have highlighted in red below then you are looking at a fake and should not purchase it.

That is everything you should need to know about the Amazing Painting in Animal Crossing New Horizons. For more useful tips and guides on the game, Twinfinite’s extensive guide wiki has you covered. You can find guides on how to spot differences between all the other real/fake paintings.
