Getting a Watering Can in Animal Crossing New Horizons

The watering can is one of the few essential tools you’ll need to make use of in Animal Crossing New Horizons. It’s used mainly for watering the plants around the island, and you can get it fairly early on in the game.

At the very start, you’ll be able to start catching bugs and fish with your bug net and fishing rod. Once you’ve caught three or four creatures and turned them in to Tom Nook, he’ll first reward you with five plant seeds, and then a DIY Recipe for a flimsy watering can.

The materials needed for the flimsy can are really just five Softwoods, which you can get by using the axe on the trees you find around the island. With the axe, press A when standing next to a tree to chop at it, and you’ll have a chance of getting some Softwood. Once you have five of those, go to the workbench and you’ll be able to craft the flimsy watering can.

After that, you’ll be able to start watering the plants and seeds. All you have to do is walk up to the plants, press the A button with the can equipped, and you can water the plants.

To recap, here’s how to get a watering can in Animal Crossing New Horizons:

  1. Turn in four creatures to Tom Nook –both bugs and fishes count towards this.

  2. You’ll be rewarded with a DIY Recipe for the flimsy watering can.

  3. Collect five Softwoods, then use it to craft the can at a workbench.
