Customizing Your House in Animal Crossing New Horizons

First things first, before you can start to properly customize your house and gain access to all the nifty tools for home decoration, you’ll need to pay off your first loan to Tom Nook. After you move to the island and pay off your initial debt of 5,000 Nook Miles, you can become a homeowner, which gives you a proper house instead of a tent.

From this point on, you can start making use of the decorative in-game tools to properly design your house.

All you have to do is head into your home, and then press down on the d-pad to enter decorative mode. While in this mode, you can use the left stick to select your furniture, then hold the A button and move the stick to move the furniture around. You can also just tap the A button to rotate it as you wish.

In addition to that, if you want to add a piece of furniture to storage from your house, you can tap the Y button while having it selected. You can also press X to bring up your character’s inventory, then pull out furniture from there.

Wallpaper, Flooring, Rugs

Aside from just customizing your house with cool furniture, you can also change the wallpaper and flooring of your home. Once you unlock the Nook’s Cranny shop, you can purchase different types of wallpapers and floorings from the shop each day.

However, the NPC Saharah will also show up to your island randomly in Animal Crossing New Horizons, selling you a good variety of rugs, along with mysterious wallpapers and floorings. Her stuff is usually a little more pricey, but they’re also unique and not in the Nook’s Cranny catalogue, so it’d be wise to hit her up whenever she’s around.

Once you have a few of these in your inventory or storage, you can simply select them and display them in your house. Do note that depending on the sizes of your rugs, you may not be able to show all of them off at once. Try moving your rugs around to create more space.

How to Get Furniture

If your furniture stock is low, you can always craft some if you have the DIY Recipes for them, or purchase them from the Nook’s Cranny shop. The catalogue changes daily as well, so you’ll want to pop in regularly to see if they have any cool items for sale. The Nook Shopping and Nook Miles options from the Nook Stop terminal also have furniture on sale.

It’s also possible to find furniture hidden in trees, and you can shake trees to see if any drop for you. Finally, whenever you see balloon presents up in the sky, you can also shoot them down with your slingshot, and there’s a chance you can get furniture that way as well.
