Catching Mewtwo in Pokemon Sword & Shield

As you may have heard, Mewtwo is joining Max Raid Battles to celebrate Pokemon Day and the release of the first movie remake. This will be a tough raid since this legendary will be at level 100. That means it’s time to max out a Tyranitar if you haven’t already.

Something terrible happens after your hard-fought battle against one of the most formidable single Pokemon you’ll ever face. You don’t even get the opportunity to catch Mewtwo. It disappears into the den after being defeated.

This means that there’s currently only one way to get the Genetic Pokemon in Sword & Shield. First, you’ll have to download the Pokemon Home app on your smartphone or Nintendo Switch.

Then, you can transfer the legendary creature to Pokemon Home if you have it in Pokemon Let’s Go. You can also move any Mewtwos you have stored in Pokemon Bank on your 3DS over to Home.

The last method for getting Mewtwo into Pokemon Sword & Shield will eventually be from Pokemon GO. Right now, you can’t move any mons from GO to Home. However, compatibility with the mobile game is currently in the works.

Time needed: 20 minutes

Here’s a quick summary of how to get Mewtwo in Pokemon Sword & Shield:

  1. Download Pokemon Home

This can be done on Switch or mobile phones

  2. Transfer Mewtwo from Bank, Let’s Go or GO to Home

Pokemon GO compatibility is “coming soon”

  3. Transfer Mewtwo from Home to Sword & Shield

Finally, Mewtwo is free to join you in the Galar region
