If you’re on a quest to catch ’em all in Pokemon Sword and Shield, you’re going to need to start evolving some Pokemon to get their even more powerful forms. Evolving Helioptile in Pokemon Sword & Shield

Cutting right to the chase, to evolve Helioptile in Pokemon Sword and Shield, you’re going to need to get yourself a Sun Stone. These can be obtained in a number of different ways, but the two best ways we’ve found, we’ve detailed below.

Getting a Sun Stone to Evolve Helioptile

The two best ways to get a Sun Stone, namely because it means you don’t have to spend any of that hard-earned money, are as follows:

First, make your way to Hammerlocke Hills just south of Hammerlocke itself. This will put you right at the top of the Wild Area section here. Head immediately south and look out for the rock arches. Just underneath one, you’ll spot a Poke Ball like this:

Head over to it to nab yourself a Sun Stone in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

The other way to get a Sun Stone — and more in the future, as it respawns — is to head to the Lake of Outrage in this very same Wild Area.

From the Hammerlocke Hills fast travel point, ride immediately right and cross the water here when you’ve got the Rotom water bike. This is obtained on route 9, so you’ll get this eventually as part of the story.

When you’re in the Lake of Outrage, you’ll see eight massive rocks sticking out of the ground.

Walk on over to these and you’ll be able to pick up each of the eight evolution stones from behind each one. The Sun Stone is one of these, and as we noted before, the evolution stones that spawn here will eventually respawn after they’ve been picked up.

Using the Sun Stone to Get Heliolisk

Now that you’ve got the Sun Stone, to evolve Helioptile simply use it. You don’t need to reach a certain level with the Pokemon, so press X to open your bag and tab over to the ‘Other Items’ option. Select the Sun Stone and use it on Helioptile to evolve it into Heliolisk.
