How to Change Character Appearance in Outer Worlds

As with most other first-person RPGs, The Outer Worlds allows you to change your character’s appearance at the beginning of the game while creating your character. It’s here that you can alter their hairstyle, skin tone, facial features and other customization options one would expect from a modern game.

As it stands, though, this is also the only time you can change your character’s appearance throughout the duration of the game. As such, you’ll be stuck with the character you’ve designed once you leave the character creation menu, and will have to make due with whatever beauty, monstrosity or something in-between you managed to craft.

It’s unclear whether this will be changed in the future either, with no announcements from the game’s developer Obsidian Entertainment on the matter at this time.

How to Change Outfits and Armor

However, it’s worth noting that this only applies to your character’s base features.

When it comes to your equipment – namely your helmet, armor and/or outfit proper – you can change it out at any time with whichever bits you currently have in your inventory. This remains true throughout the game, and to that end is your best bet if you’re looking to change up the character model you’ve been playing as for however many hours.

Time needed: 1 minute

To sum things up, here’s how to change character appearance in The Outer Worlds:

  1. You can obtain new armor by purchasing them from vendors or looting them off enemies.

  2. Go to your character menu, head to the Inventory tab, and then equip the pieces of gear you want for your character.
