First of all, we get two tweets showing off the new axe weapon that can be used in different ways.

First of all, it can be used as an off-hand weapon in melee, delivering fast attacks that can overwhelm the enemy.

It can also be used as a throwing weapon. A variation of this is a short range “uppercut” throw. Of course, the axe is available to try in the beta.

More videos were showcased in a special “Dojo” page of the official website, starting with what is familiar.

Normal attacks are divided in fast and strong, respectively on the square and triangle buttons.

Fast attacks are quick and consume little stamina, but they also have low power. Strong attacks are powerful but consume more stamina and are slower.

If you run out of stamina, you can’t attack until you recover.

R3 lets you lock onto a target, also displaying its hit point and stamina bars.

Stances are returning. Upper is R1 + Triangle, Middle is R1 + Square, and Low is R1 + X.

They’re respectively strong in attack, defense, and dodging.

After attacking, if you press R1 you can recover part of the stamina you spent. If you do it with perfect timing, you will recover more.

Some youkai create a a special area around themselves in which they’re more powerful and your recovery as a human is weakened.

Moving on to the new elements, we have the transformation into a youkai, which can be executed with circle + triangle and canceled with R1 + circle.

Your health and stamina gauge change to the youkai gauge. When in this form your attack power increase and you don’t lose health or stamina. Instead you consume youkai gauge.

The gauge is also consumed over time, and you will revert to human when it expires.

If you press triangle near a downed enemy in youkai form, you can perform a powerful finisher.

By pressing circle + triangle while in youkai form you can unleash the power of your guardian spirit. The effect changes depending on the spirit you have equipped.

By pressing R2 + circle when in human form with perfect timing as an enemy attacks, you will instantly and temporarily turn into a youkai and deliver a counter that can drain a lot of the enemy’s stamina.

By pressing R2 + circle you can also consume youkai power and dash leaving an afterimage. If an enemy attack hits the afterimage, you will deliver a powerful counter.

On the other hand, you can press R2 + Circle to deliver a powerful Youkai attack, but if you intercept an enemy skill, you can deal a lot of stamina damage.
