Here’s what you need to know about how to get Piranha Plant in Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate, as the name implies, is the definitive version of the fighting series. With every character from the series history, more maps than ever before, and a wealth of game modes, this is the most ambitious Smash game yet. Not content to just feature every character ever, however, Nintendo has added a host of newcomers as well including the Inkling, Ridley, Simon Belmont, and more.

During the November Super Smash Bros Ultimate Direct it was also announced that Piranha Plant would be fighting its way into the game, but there’s a catch.

Piranha Plant is a full-blown original character in Ultimate, but it won’t be available in the game at launch. The fighter will be a free DLC character added onto the game roughly a month or two after its release. Nintendo hasn’t given any more exact details at this point. The other catch, though, is that Piranha Plant will only be available to early purchasers of Super Smash Bros Ultimate, anyone that buys the game between Nov. 1, 2018 and Jan. 31, 2019.

At this point, this is the only way we know of that Piranha Plant can be gotten, and it won’t be included as part of the Fighter Pass. Should that change, we’ll make sure to update this article.
