Here’s what you need to know about the best classes in Diablo 3, and which ones will suit your play style best.
First things first, we should make it clear that there aren’t actually any “best classes” in Diablo 3. The nice thing about the game is that they’re all strong in their own ways, and they can all be viable when playing through the end game content. That said, there are a few classes that could be considered the best for beginners, or players who are just getting started.
Best Classes for Diablo 3 Beginners
Crusader/Barbarian: Right out of the gate, the Crusader and Barbarian are the easiest melee classes to pick up in Diablo 3. They both thrive at getting up in their enemies’ faces and dealing tons of damage. These classes have good survivability, and are also great at dealing damage, making them the most straightforward classes to start with for beginners.
The Monk is a decent melee pick as well, but we found that the Crusader and Barbarian were just a little more tanky.
Witch Doctor: If you’d prefer to play as a ranged character, the Witch Doctor is one of the best classes to go for. If you play your cards right, you can mostly rely on your minions to do all the heavy lifting for you, and you won’t have to worry too much about taking damage, at least on the lower difficulty levels.
Wizard: And if the Witch Doctor isn’t to your liking, the Wizard’s starting kit is also fairly straightforward and easy to pick up. The Wizard is still one of the most popular classes in Diablo 3 because of their raw damage output and crowd control spells. Be careful, though; the Wizard can’t take too much damage before falling, so you’ll need to make sure to keep your distance.
Best Diablo 3 Classes for Ranged Play Styles
Wizard: As mentioned above, the Wizard is capable of dealing massive amounts of damage in Diablo 3, and they also offer players quite a bit of flexibility when it comes to builds. While the Wizard probably works better as part of a party, you can make it work as a solo player as well.
Consider picking up Diamond Skin or Ice Armor to give yourself a bit more protection if you’re playing alone, while making full use of your AoE spells to nuke enemies as quickly as possible.
Necromancer: The Necromancer is one of the best well-rounded classes in Diablo 3. While they’re not quite as powerful as the Wizard, they’re also capable of dealing tons of AoE damage with Death Nova, and summoning skeletons or golems as minions to handle the crowds. In addition to that, the Necromancer also has access to several debilitating skills such as Frailty and Decrepify to weaken their foes.
Just like the Wizard, the Necromancer isn’t exactly tanky either, but if you build them right and choose the proper runes, you can heal up extremely quickly in tight situations. The Necromancer also has access to an armor spell for more protection.
Best Diablo 3 Classes for Melee Play Styles
Crusader: The Crusader might be a tank, but they can also be very mobile during fights. You’ll want to make use of your mobility skills to charge straight into battle, and also get you out of bad situations quickly if you need to. The Crusader doesn’t have access to a lot of ranged skills, but you’ll excel by grouping enemies together and nuking them at once.
In addition to that, don’t forget to use Provoke to keep the enemies away from your party, and make sure to use your damage mitigation skills to keep your health up before things get dangerous. Both the Crusader and Barbarian are easy to learn, but in terms of overall party effectiveness, the Crusader is the way to go.
Monk: The Monk is another great melee class to pick up, but for different reasons than the Crusader. Yes, you will still be focusing on grouping enemies up together and beating them up, but you also have the ability to heal up your party when needed.
