How to Increase Health in Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is probably the most hotly anticipated game of 2018, and for good reason, too. It’s the prequel to Rockstar’s popular wild west open world game on the PS3 and Xbox 360, and it looks like it might even surpass the original in some areas. As you progress through the story, you’ll probably want to increase Arthur’s health a little to improve his chances of survival. Here’s what you need to know about how to increase health in Red Dead Redemption 2.

First, it’s worth noting that there isn’t any kind of leveling system in Red Dead Redemption 2. Your stats have to be leveled up by doing different things or engaging in specific activities. If you want to increase health, there are a few things you can do, such as fishing, hunting, or getting into melee fistfights.

From our time with the game, we found that it was much easier to increase health by fishing or hunting. Getting into fistfights is good too, but considering how easy it is for NPCs to report your crimes and put a bounty on your head, we preferred to resort to methods that didn’t involve us getting into trouble with the law.

Hunting and Fishing to Increase Health in Red Dead Redemption 2

For every fish that you catch, or every animal that you hunt, you’ll gain health points, which will be indicated on the right side of your screen whenever you complete those activities. Once you have enough health points to reach the next threshold, your health bar will increase.

You can track how many points you need to increase health to the next level by pausing the game, choosing the Player option, choosing Arthur, then checking his health progress from there. By leveling up, your health bar will get longer, but your health core will remain the same size.

When fishing or hunting, we also found that the bigger or tougher the prey, the more health points you’ll get in Red Dead Redemption 2. For instance, catching small fish will give you 10 health points.

However, catching medium-sized fish will reward you with 20 health points. Bigger fish can be caught by getting better bait or lures, which can be bought from the bait shop in Lagras. We’ve got a handy and comprehensive fishing guide if you need some help with that.

And as always, when your health is low, you can use potent health cures to restore it. You can also eat cooked food to restore your health core. Hunting and fishing is definitely the best method to increase health in the game, as you can always cook the meat for extra food, or donate it to camp.

And that’s all you need to know about how to increase health in Red Dead Redemption 2. Be sure to check our Red Dead Redemption 2 guide wiki for more information on the game.
