How to Use Cheats in Red Dead Redemption 2
If you’ve ever played a Rockstar game, you know one of the best ways to spice the game up after spending hundreds of hours in it is cheats. In Grand Theft Auto, by simply typing in a code on your cell phone, you can get unlimited ammo or the best car in the game. There are cheats within Red Dead Redemption 2, and likely in a similar vein to that of it’s GTA counterpart, they can drastically change the game. Some of them give you a small edge over your enemies. Some turn you into a cowboy god. Regardless, all of them are good fun. Here’s how to use cheats in Red Dead Redemption 2.
To enter all cheat codes in Red Dead Redemption 2, you need to pause the game, go to the settings and once there, press Triangle (PS4) or Y (Xbox One). That will take you to the Cheats menu. There, enter a cheat code and you should see a message letting you know that you’ve unlocked the cheat.
After saving, you’ll never have to input that cheat code again. You can simply go to the Cheats menu and toggle the cheat on or off.
All Cheat Codes
Some are better than others, but at the end of the day, it’s up to you to determine how to utilize them. Here are all of the cheats in Red Dead Redemption 2. Have fun!
Infinite Ammo
You must first find the New Hanover Gazette No. 27 newspaper. It can be purchased in Valentine during Chapter 1. Once you’ve done that, input “Abundance is the dullest desire” into the Cheats menu. This will grant you unlimited ammo.
Heavy Weapons
You must first find the New American Art newspaper, which can be purchased after completing the Chapter 3 mission, Advertising. Once you’ve done that, input “Greed is American Virtue” and you will unlock a cheat that adds pump-action shotguns, bolt-action rifles, the Mauser pistol and semi-automatic pistols to your inventory.
Fog of War
You must first purchase the newspaper, Ancient and Modern, after completing the Chapter 3 mission, Blood Facts. After that, input “You Long for Sign but See Nothing” to reveal the entire map.
Set Dead Eye Level (3)
There is no prerequisite newspaper to purchase before using this code. Simply input “I shall be better” and you will unlock a cheat that allows you to set your Dead Eye level to Rank 3.
Set Dead Eye Level (5)
There is no prerequisite newspaper to purchase before using this code. Simply input “I seek and I find” to unlock a cheat that allows you to set your Dead Eye level to Rank 5.
Set Health, Stamina, and Dead Eye Bars to Full
There is no prerequisite newspaper to purchase before using this code. Simply input “You flourish before you die” to refill all bars for health, stamina and Dead Eye.
Create Wagon
There is no prerequisite newspaper to purchase before using this code. Simply input “Keep your dreams simple” to spawn a wagon with one horse.
Create Race Horse
There is no prerequisite newspaper to purchase before using this code. Simply input “Run! Run! Run!” to spawn a race horse.
Drunk
There is no prerequisite newspaper to purchase before using this code. Simply input “A fool on command” to instantly become drunk.
Increase Horse Whistle Range
There is no prerequisite newspaper to purchase before using this code. Simply input “Better than my dog” to unlock a cheat that allows you to call your horse from any distance.
The following four cheat codes require a newspaper, but as of yet, which newspaper has not yet been discovered. We will update it with more information when we learn what newspaper is needed.
Create War Horse
Input “You are a beast built for war” to spawn a War Horse.
Fortify Health, Stamina and Dead Eye Bars
Input “You Seek More Than The World Offers” to not only refill, but fortify all of your bars.
Create Circus Wagon
Input “Would you be happier as a clown? to spawn a circus wagon.
High Honor
Input “Virtue Unearned is not Virtue” to raise your honor rating.
It’s important to note that there are additional cheat codes in the game, but as of yet, we have not discovered them. This page will be updated as we do.
Best Cheat Codes
Like we said, some are better than others. Some turn you into the most badass outlaw in the Wild West while others serve to simply put a smile on your face. Here are the best cheats in Red Dead Redemption 2.
There isn’t one specific cheat code that stands tall above the rest, but there are a few great ones that will make your time in the Wild West a lot easier.
“Abundance is the dullest desire” is a cheat code that unlock infinite ammo, which is especially useful as there will certainly be times where you run out of ammo. Another great cheat code (albeit one that kind of ruins some of the fun in the game) is “You Long for Sight but See Nothing”. This code reveals the entire map, which is especially useful for people who are ready to see everything the Wild West offers.
For those tough times where you’re hanging on to dear life by a thread, use “You Seek More Than The World Offers” to refill and fortify all of your bars. This will get you back in fighting shape immediately. The final, and perhaps most practical, cheat code is “Better than my dog”. This code allows you to call for your horse from any distance.
Some of the less useful, but nonetheless great, cheat codes to unlock are “A fool on command” which makes you instantly drunk (which makes the game a new type of fun) and “Would you be happier as a clown?” which immediately spawns a circus wagon. What better way is there to head into a town you’re about to shake up with some bullets than doing so on top of a circus wagon?
Do They Disable Trophies & Achievements?
While cheats certainly make the game more fun, or at least interesting, they can also break it in some ways. An invincible cheat might make an achievement or trophy about reaching this level, or killing this person, entirely too easy. Still though, it’s not unusual for games to allow them in achievement or trophy hunting. It’s also not unusual for games to disable trophies and achievements when using them. Where does Red Dead Redemption 2 fall? Do they disable trophies and achievements in the game?
Unfortunately, turning on any cheat will prevent you from not only earning trophies and achievements, but it also prevents you from saving your progress. So, as you hunt for the platinum or elusive 1000 gamerscore, keep this in mind!
