How to Pick and Roll in NBA 2K19

NBA 2K returns once again this year for 2019 and it is still top of the basketball game. As has been the case in previous years, you have to know all the intricacies of the game to be successful online and on the higher difficulties. You cannot simply run straight at the opposing team’s defense, hoping for endless layups and dunks. That tactic simply won’t cut it in NBA 2K19. The pick and roll is one of the moves you need to master if you want to be successful on the court. It allows you to quickly break your opponent’s defense and drive towards the basket for an easy shot or opening for a teammate. If you want to add it to your arsenal of skills, here’s everything you need to know about how to do the pick and roll in NBA 2K19.

Activating a pick and roll in NBA 2K19 is done by holding the game’s call play button, which is L1 if you’re playing on PlayStation 4 and LB on Xbox One. Once you do so, one of your teammates will set up a screen and, while holding the left bumper, you can press R2 to change the angle of your teammates screen. Once the screen (the pick in pick and roll) is exactly where you want it to be, you can begin your move towards the basket. As you drive forwards, the defenders will begin to panic and you they’ll begin to surround your player if you choose not to shoot. This also means that the pick and roll has opened up space for you to set up a teammate with a pass. Simply pass it off to them, and they’ll have a better chance of scoring than they would have done if you hadn’t activated the pick and roll. You can also have the screening player fade or roll by pressing R2 or R1 (RT/RB) respectively. The roll sees them move into position for a layup, while the fade sees them position themselves accordingly for an open jump shot.
