Is EA Access on PS4? What You Need to Know

Subscription services are a new trend in the video game industry, and EA’ Access is a membership model that operates similarly to Xbox Live or PS Plus. Essentially, it offers discounts on a selection of 50 EA games, as well as exclusive versions of those games unavailable anywhere else. Membership also allows you to play hot upcoming games before they go launch officially. The package can purchase in one-month or 12-month increments either from the Xbox Games Store or selected third-party retailers. But what’s the deal if you’re a PS4 player wanting to get on board? Is EA Access on PS4? Here’s what you need to know.

Unfortunately, as of right now, EA Access is an Xbox exclusive as far as home consoles go. There is no way to use EA access on PS4. As it turns out, Sony evaluated EA Access back in 2014 and opted not to offer the service to its customers. According to a statement made to Gamespot, Sony stated: “We evaluated the EA Access subscription offering and decided that it does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect.”

The representative went on to explain that “PlayStation Plus memberships are up more than 200% since the launch of PlayStation 4, which shows that gamers are looking for memberships that offer a multitude of services, across various devices, for one low price.”

As it turns out, EA Access has proven a success, and we had expected the service to come to PS4 in the coming years. During an earnings call conversation last year, EA hinted that the subscription could finally be coming to the PlayStation 4. “Our subscription player base continues to grow,” boss Andrew Wilson noted. “And you should expect us to continue driving this model to more platforms going forward.” This same statement was then reiterated throughout the meeting.

But which platforms was Wilson referring to? The service is already available on Xbox One and PC, so doesn’t that only leave PS4? Perhaps he was referring to mobile? We’ll have to wait and see. But as of this moment, EA access is certainly not available on PS4.
