First of all, when you start the game up, you are met with the option of playing your own game, where others will be able to join your session, or join another session. Choosing join another session will present you with a list of your friends currently playing and an option that lets you join a random session. Simply select the friend you want to play with in No Man’s Sky, and jump into exploring.

Alternatively, you can bring up the menu once you’re in a game and head to the Options tab go to ‘Network & Voice’.
