Getting a Freighter in No Man’s Sky NEXT
With the NEXT update, No Man’s Sky has received several substantial changes including proper online multiplayer, better base-building mechanics, and Hello Games has also made it a little easier for players to get their first freighter.
Freighters were introduced to No Man’s Sky a few patches ago, and it allows players to customize them however they want, and get into more intense space battles. However, they were also quite costly. In NEXT, it is now a lot easier to get your very first one in the game, without having to spend an obscene amount of units. As you’re progressing through the story in No Man’s Sky, or just warping between star systems at your leisure, you will eventually come across a freighter that’s taking lots of heavy fire from enemy ships. You’ll need to help defend the freighter by shooting down the hostile ships, which can take a while, if your ship’s cannons aren’t upgraded, but it’s definitely doable.
If you’re successful, you’ll be able to board the freighter itself and talk to the commander. You’ll then receive it as a reward, and you can start customizing it however you like. Freighters come with pretty good inventory spaces, and they can be transported to other star systems for your convenience. As mentioned before, you can also purchase them individually in No Man’s Sky by docking at one, and then negotiating with the captain. Just be prepared to spend a lot of units if you’re looking to buy. Freighters can be customized with the game’s base-building system as well.
