How to Destroy Plague Hearts & Where to Find Them in State of Decay 2
Plague Hearts are pretty disgusting mounds of flesh that seem to be the focal points for the plague of undead zombies scattered across the world. The most ferocious zombies – plague zombies – tend to flock to these, too, meaning they’re pretty heavily defended and you’ll need to go in armed to the teeth if you want to come out alive. Unfortunately, the more Plague Hearts you defeat, the stronger the remaining ones get, so knowing how to destroy Plagues Hearts and where to find them in State of Decay 2 is pretty handy to know.
To find Plague Hearts in State of Decay 2, you’ll want to keep an eye out for tons of plague zombies as you’re exploring. These are the ones normally covered in blood with the bright red, glowing eyes. If you see a bunch of these, that normally means there’s a Plague Heart nearby. When you do come across one, it’ll automatically be marked on your map with a nice skull icon on a tear of blood.
Now that you’ve found Plague Hearts in State of Decay 2, you’ll need to destroy them. While you can kill them with melee weapons, we don’t advise it. They deal very little damage to Plague Hearts, and you’ll drain your stamina beating the crap out of them that when the plague zombies come to defend it, you’ll be overwhelmed incredibly quickly. Instead, we advise grabbing a car and beeping the horn outside the building the Plague Hearts are in to draw the zombies out. Get ’em into a pack, and then simply run them down. Grab any blood plague samples they drop before heading in to find the Plague Heart itself.
With the zombies largely at bay, you’ll want to either shoot the Plague Heart (which will attract more zombies), or use some form of explosive. We found that C4 charges were powerful enough to wipe most out in a single, giant explosion, but these are tough to come by in State of Decay 2. We also found using the Soda Can Bombs that can be made at the Workshop at your base came in handy, though these aren’t anywhere near as powerful as the C4 remote explosives so you’ll need a few of them. Molotov cocktails are another handy and easy-to-craft alternative in State of Decay 2 that’ll give Plague Hearts a hard time. There are also more powerful versions of both of these in the form of Pipe Bombs and Fuel Canisters, but these have a few more requirements to craft in State of Decay 2.
