How to Throw Your Axe in God of War

God of War finally brings the legendary action series back, after taking a few years off. Kratos returns once again, but he’s a different man; he’s now a father trying to raise his son while grappling with the ghosts of his past. To go along with this change Kratos no longer uses his Blades of Chaos, but instead the devastating Leviathan Axe.

This long axe lets Kratos sweep it in giant arcs, destroying multiple enemies easily. It has another handy function, however, letting Kratos throw it at enemies and instantly retrieve it, a la Thor’s hammer. Luckily it’s very easy to do this, simply hold down the L2 button on PlayStation or Left CTRL on PC to aim, then use R1 or R2, or left click or right click, to throw. To recall the axe, press Triangle or the R key.

Keep in mind that even when you throw your axe you can use Kratos’ fists and his shield to still attack enemies until it gets called back.

Throwing the Leviathan Axe is an ability you have right from the get-go in God of War, so you should definitely use it quite often. Mixing up your combat style with a variety of close-range attacks, fist strikes, parries, and axe throws will help you adapt to each and every situation.
