Be playing within 5 minutes with these simple steps.

Setting up your PS4 controller for use on your PC is actually very simple and only takes around 5 minutes. Besides the controller itself, all you need is the USB charging cable that came with the controller. This is the easiest way to use your PS4 controller on PC, but you can also connect it wirelessly via bluetooth. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to set up your PS4 controller with a wired connection or wirelessly.

Note: Some Steam games feature native PS4 controller support, in which case you can simply plug your controller into your PC and it will work. With the method listed below, you’ll be able to use your PS4 controller with any PC game that has controller support.

Using a PS4 controller via USB cable:

  1. Go to DS4Windows.com.
  2. Click on DS4Windows.zip make sure the save file option is selected, and then click OK.
  3. Go to your downloads folder, locate the DS4Windows folder, right click and select extract all… and then click extract. (If you are using Windows 7 and this option does not appear for you, you may need to download WinRAR.)
  4. In this new folder, double click the DS4Windows file (it will have a controller icon), click run, and then click program folder.
  5. The program will open. Click ‘Step 1: Install the DS4 Driver’ and then click install. (If you are using Windows 7 or below, also click ‘Step 2: If on Windows 7 or below, Install 360 Driver’).
  6. Plug your PS4 controller into your PC via USB cable.
  7. Close and reopen the program. Your controller should now show up on the controllers tab.
  8. Make sure to leave the DS4Windows program open while using the controller.

Using a PS4 Controller via bluetooth:

In order to use your PS4 controller wirelessly via bluetooth connection, your PC needs to have a bluetooth driver installed, or you need to have a bluetooth adapter. If you have a means to use bluetooth on your PC, here’s how to connect your PS4 controller:

  1. Follow the above steps 1-5.
  2. In the DS4Windows program, click on the settings tab, and then click controllers/driver setup.
  3. Click on bluetooth settings and your PC’s  bluetooth devices screen should open. Make sure that bluetooth is switched to on.
  4. Hold down the PS button and the share button on your PS4 controller at the same time until the light bar on your controller starts flashing white. The wireless controller option should now appear on your PC’s bluetooth devices screen. Click on this option, and then click pair. (It may ask you to enter a code, in which case, enter 0000.)
  5. Your controller should now show up on the controllers tab in the DS4Windows program. If not, close and reopen the program.
  6. Make sure to leave the DS4Windows program open while using the controller.
