This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

The world of Minecraft is a huge place and you’ll find yourself often using your map to help you keep track of where you are. However, sometimes you may find yourself losing your map one way or another and in need of another one.

First off, you’re going to need eight paper. You can get one sheet of paper by putting three sugar cane on a crafting table. You may want to continue to harvest sugar cane as you play Minecraft as the more paper you have, the larger you can expand your map in the future.

When you’ve got your supply of paper, you’re going to need a compass. To craft this you’ll need to get four iron ingots and one Redstone dust. Head over to a crafting table and place the four iron ingots in a diamond shape, and place the Redstone dust in the middle. This will then allow you to craft a compass.

So with the paper and the compass in our inventory, place the compass in the middle of the crafting grid and surround it with paper. This will then give you a map which will show you the nearby area. To expand your view on it, all you have to do is place the map in the middle of a crafting grid and surround it once again with paper. The more times you do this, the larger it will become.
