How to Set a Data Cap (Capped Internet) in Microsoft Flight Simulator

Setting a data cap in Microsoft Flight Simulator will allow you to manually limit how much data the game streams for map fidelity, as well as real-time weather and air traffic. If you’re not overly fussed about potentially handicapping the game’s fidelity in this way then you’ll avoid chewing threw internet data as you play.

In fact, depending on what other programs you’re running while playing Flight Sim, you might even notice an increase in frame-rate performance with features like real-time clouds removed from the equation. We found that when multi-tasking between playing and, say, downloading another game in the background, the performance was reduced in-game.

Thankfully, setting up an in-game data cap isn’t especially difficult. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown:

  1. Click on the Options tab in the Welcome Menu. Alternatively, if you’re already playing, press ESC.

  2. Locate the General tab, then click into Data.

  3. Once in the Data tab, you’ll find information on how much you’ve streamed under Data Consumption. It’s there that Data Limit can be set.

That’s everything you should need to know about how to set a data cap in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. For more useful tips and guides on the game, be sure to check out Twinfinite’s extensive guide wiki.
