Far Cry Primal: How to Ride Mammoths

Trample over your enemies.
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

While exploring the large expanse of Oros in Far Cry Primal, you’ll come across everything from a small chicken to a large woolly mammoth. With there being so much ground to cover, it was only right that the developers let you ride an animal or two. Of course, the animals most players will have their eye on are the imposing mammoths. Strolling through the wild on one of these hulking beasts is sure to intimidate any enemy tribes.

Before you can hop on the back of one of the mammoths, you’ll have to get Karoosh to come to your village. After completing the section that has you fighting off Udan to protect your new village, Sayla will task you with recruiting several notable Wenja warriors. Recruiting each one will unlock access to a specific skill tree. Karoosh grants the Fighting Skills, which are what you need to unlock mammoth riding. Why it isn’t under the Beast Master Skill tree is anyone’s guess.

Once he’s in your village, build his first hut. If you have skill points reserved, you can immediately purchase the Death From Above skill which will unlock the Mammoth Rider Skill to be purchased for one more skill point.

Now that you have the skill, approach a young mammoth from the side (they’re noticeably smaller than other mammoths, but still quite large). Hold the Square on the PS4 and “X” on the Xbox One and you’ll mount the beast and be able to wreak havoc. Stomp on enemies, charge through the land, fire arrows from the mammoth’s back, and just completely own the wild.

Mammoths sure are cool.
