Secret Scenes
Hidden MGS V Features
Without spoiling too much, you’re able to unlock a secret scene in the Medical platform of your Mother Base if you go to a door with a blue light emitting from it. Follow our handy guide if you want to check it out or get spoiled for yourself. This is just one of the many secret scenes Hideo Kojima and company have implanted in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. There’s also Quiet’s birthday surprise or the one where Snake gets so disgusting that he’s forced to shower by his Mother Base staff.
Box Stuff
Hidden MGS V Features
Did you know that you could get your hands on different posters throughout the game? They’re for your cardboard boxes and will help you get around enemies in different ways. The standing Soviet Soldier can be used upright for Snake to fool enemies from afar. They’ll be convinced he’s just an ally walking about. Meanwhile, the pin-up woman is when you want to attract a soldier to you as you’re laid on the ground. Simply side out the other side or knock them out with ease when they come too close.
Speaking of your cardboard box, there’s a really fun activity you can spend way too much time doing around a hilly area in the game: box sledding.
Shirtless Snake
Hidden MGS V Features
When you’re in the loadout screen, before a mission, you can choose Snake’s equipment, buddy, and vehicle. You can also head over to the character section to change up his uniform. Almost every uniform has three variations: with scarf, without, and shirtless. The shirtless one can totally be overlooked if you don’t hit left on the d-pad to get to it, as every uniform starts on technically the second option.
Dropping Supplies on Heads
It’s a bit tricky in many cases, but the easiest way to knock someone out is by marking them and dropping a supply box on them. This is especially useful during your altercation with Quiet at the ruins. Immediately get your binoculars out to mark her, go to your Supply Drop Menu, and drop the cheapest box on her. It’ll knock her right out on the second time. You can even knock out D-Horse if he’s giving you too much trouble. Just please don’t do it to D-Dog.
Fast Travel on Mother Base
Fast traveling in MGS V: The Phantom Pain can be a bit of a pain. You have to call the chopper to pick you up whenever you want to quickly get to another mission’s location. However, while at Mother Base, there’s a far more convenient (and faster) way to get around the platforms. Simply get into a cardboard box, walk on top of the Supply Pickup spot located on every platform, and hold triangle when it pops up. This will let you choose another platform to get delivered to.
Faster Extraction
As previously mentioned, fast travel can really suck out in the field; calling the chopper, traveling to the spot where it’s picking you up, and then waiting for it can get old fast. However, you’re able to quickly extract to Mother Base if you’re in the process of fultoning some big stuff. After you get the transportation specialist, you’re able to fulton larger stuff like vehicles and supply crates. Simply extract a vehicle while you sit in it, or stand atop a supply crate and hold on tight. You’ll be in Mother Base in no time.
Take the Easy Route
Hidden MGS V Features
MGS V: The Phantom Pain can get really difficult at times, especially if you’re not very good at stealth. The game throws you a bone in the form of the Chicken Hat. Simply fail enough times for a menu to pop up offering to turn it on for you, or head over to the main menu and turn it on yourself in the game options. It allows you to not alert the enemy, even if they spot you. This only works three times, though, so don’t go crazy. It’s awesome for completing really hard stealth missions, but even better for extraction side ops.
Nearly Invincible
Hidden MGS V Features
If you’ve gotten D-Walker and have developed a body shield, you can be nearly invincible to enemy fire. You see, D-Walker’s robust mechanical frame will protect you from the front, while the shield being on Snake’s back provides a lot of cover from behind. Now, it’s not fool-proof, but it is really viable as a way to get some extra life expectancy when you’re blitzing an enemy camp. Just don’t be surprised when Snake’s ankles get way too bloody.
