Shin Megami Tensei 5 Release Window
It just seems like Tokyo Game Show 2020 is one of the best spots out of all of these predictions. So far, we’ve seen very little when it comes to Shin Megami Tensei 5. Before we got an update back in July of this year, Atlus had been completely silent about the next entry in the JRPG franchise.
Persona 5 Royal was in the spotlight during much of that time due to how close that project was to wrapping up. But now Atlus can focus on promoting Shin Megami Tensei 5. And even though it’s not coming out until next year, even a release window would be enough to get fans excited.
Of course, a release date is preferable, but setting that hard deadline so far out doesn’t seem like a good idea with the current state of the world. We already know the Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne remaster is coming out Spring of next year, so I wouldn’t expect anything before that.
New Sonic the Hedgehog Game
When it comes to Tokyo Game Show 2020 predictions, a brand new Sonic game announcement doesn’t seem like a wild idea at this point. When you consider the fact that the blue blur’s 30th anniversary is coming up next year, it just makes sense.
The announcement may not make the internet go wild since a new Sonic game seems likely at the point. But new titles in the franchise always bring out some of the most passionate video game fans to the forefront of Twitter and forum discussions.
There will almost certainly be judgments on the game made far too early whether it’s 2D or 3D. Just like with any other Sonic reveal, there will be plenty of lively discussions breaking down each individual second of the trailer because Sonic fans love that adorably mischievous little hedgehog.
New Smash Bros. Character Reveal
It has been nearly three months since Masahiro Sakurai graciously invited the world into his home to showcase Min Min to the world. That means if the team has managed to figure out how to streamline the work from home process, then we may be at most one month away from the next Super Smash Bros. fighter.
And yes, I know Nintendo doesn’t have an official timeslot in the Tokyo Game Show stream. However, they do their own thing all the time and they could easily announce a reveal trailer the day before it goes live. Heck, they drop Mini Directs on YouTube without any prior notice.
The time is right and Nintendo’s unpredictable nature in the past has only shown us that they can announce a new Smash fighter whenever they feel like it. Even more exciting is the possibility of who it could be, but that’s a discussion for another day.
Metal Gear Solid Remake
Remakes are so hot right now. Final Fantasy 7 Remake was one of the best-reviewed games to come out in 2020 and the Demon’s Souls remake is one of the most anticipated PS5 launch titles. But there’s one other classic PlayStation title that could use a remake.
Hideo Kojima is no longer with Konami, so their best bet to not anger that fanbase would simply be to remake one of the most influential PS1 games of all time. Solid Snake existed before MGS, but the games featuring this stealthy super soldier didn’t take off until they hit the third dimension.
Konami extending an olive branch to David Hayter at the by bringing him back on as Snake’s voice actor would be huge for fans of the series. And if the believable rumblings on Twitter are anything to go by, then it might just be a matter of time before we see this remake revealed at the Tokyo Game Show.
Elden Ring
Elden Ring, oh Elden Ring. It’s starting to become one of those games that everyone predicts will make an appearance before every gaming stream, conference, or show. Then with each successive absence, the internet grows progressively more anxious about the game’s future. Good times.
To be fair, one of the main minds behind the story — George R.R. Martin — is notorious for massive delays on his books. As of right now though, there has been no indication that Martin has been holding up development. And everyone is just waiting for some news at the Tokyo Game Show.
It has been one year and three months since Elden Ring was shown off at E3 2019. And at this point just about any tidbit of information would be enough to tide fans over. Even if it’s just another cinematic trailer with nothing that resembles a date, those excited for the game will be temporarily satisfied.
