Last year at E3, Dead Island 2 was revealed with a quirky CG trailer. The announcement of that wasn’t so much surprising as it was the people behind the game, Yager. Yager had made their name years prior with the release of the spectacular Spec Ops: The Line, so the shift from dark “war is hell” shooter to comedic zombie splattering fun had people curious, to say the least. Now it looks like we’ll just have to wonder what was, as Yager is no longer working on Dead Island 2. In a prepared statement, Deep Silver explained the split:
“With Dead Island 2, Deep Silver has always been dedicated to delivering the sequel that Dead Island fans deserve. After careful consideration, today we announce the decision to part ways with development partner YAGER. We will continue working towards bringing our vision of Dead Island 2 to life, and we will share further information at a later stage.”
Dead Island 2 had already been delayed to 2016, and it wouldn’t entirely be surprising if another delay was announced in the near future. It’s possible that the reason for this split has to do with missing milestones–Yager’s also working on the combat flight simulator Dreadnought, so maybe the schedules for these two games conflicted with each other? Who knows.
Who do you think should develop Dead Island 2 now that Yager’s out of the picture? Let us know in the comments below.
