The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released earlier this year and received great acclaim from both gamers and critics for its beautiful graphics, vast open world, and engaging story. Developer CD Projekt RED is obviously passionate about their game, and about gaming in general and so shortly before the game was due to be released, it was announced that it would get 16 free pieces of DLC, each one released every week after the game launched. The last piece of DLC was released this week and added a New Game Plus mode to The Witcher 3.

CD Projekt Red co-founder and CEO Marcin Iwinski has released a statement thanking all the fans who have supported The Witcher 3 and he also said that he hopes to see free DLC become the norm in the gaming industry.

“I’d like to extend my thanks to all the gamers who played our game and gave these DLCs a try. Nothing makes a developer happier than seeing gamers have fun with what they created.

“I would really like to see such initiatives become an industry standard rather than an exception to the general rule, and I hope that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has set a good example.”

The free DLC that was released for The Witcher 3 wasn’t huge, mostly comprising of new armour sets, weapons, costumes, and missions, but many other publishers often charge for DLC like this. Paid DLC for The Witcher 3 is planned to be released but CD Projekt RED has stated that this DLC will add over 30 hours of gameplay to the game and will be reasonably priced.
