Telltale Games has been pretty busy this year with Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones, both just two episodes away from ending their seasons. As those finales should be hitting in the coming months, now is a great time to give the public some more details upcoming projects that will replace them in 2016. We got a glimpse at the upcoming mini-series The Walking Dead: Michonne at E3 last month, and now at Minecon in London this weekend the excellent storytellers at Telltale let us see the first trailer for their next full series – Minecraft: Story Mode.

Until now we hadn’t heard more than the title of this partnership with Mojang, which was revealed last December. The trailer for Minecraft: Story Mode, which can be viewed above, introduces us to an unexpected protagonist. Instead of Minecraft’s unofficial hero Steve, we will be in control of normal-guy Jesse, voiced by the delightful Patton Oswalt. He’s not the only familiar name gracing the project, as Telltale has announced Brian Posehn (The Sarah Silverman Program), Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us), Scott Porter (Telltale’s The Walking Dead Season 2), Martha Plimpton (TV’s Raising Hope), Dave Fennoy (Telltale’s The Walking Dead Season 1), Corey Feldman (Stand By Me, The Goonies), Billy West (Futurama, Ren & Stimpy), and Paul Reubens (Pee-wee’s Playhouse) will be joining Patton Oswalt in the recording booth for this adventure.

Minecraft: Story Mode will be a five-part episodic series that will take the player to the Nether, the Farlands, the End, and beyond. According to Owen Hill, Chief Word Officer at Mojang, “The interactive storytellers at Telltale are giving players the chance to explore their own unique interpretation of the Minecraft universe. They’ve crafted a story that follows the logic of Minecraft, but still manages to feel original. It’s actually pretty funny too. And the pig is adorable. We’re super excited about players digging deeper into the world of Minecraft: Story Mode later this year.”

While this confirms the game will begin in 2015, it is likely that Telltale will continue their tradition of kicking off a new series in December, following up with the remaining episodes next year. Minecraft: Story Mode will be available to download “soon” for PC, Mac, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, compatible iOS devices, and Android.
