The people over at Firaxis have released a two minute trailer to announce their new turn-based strategy game, Sid Meier’s Starships. Now before anyone makes a Nicki Minaj Starship joke, let us dive right into it.
Aiming for a early 2015 release, only available digitally, on the iPad, Mac, and Windows PC. The game is also set in the same universe as Firaxis’ most recent game, Sid Meier’s Beyond Earth. Which is a bold move considering that that game didn’t really hit it out of the park like Civilization IV & V. They seem to really be pushing the science fiction based games as of late.
What Sid Meier’s had to say about this project was intriguing and raises a lot of unanswered questions, like they are hinting at something. “When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story of Civilization: Beyond Earth,” Meier said. “What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build star ships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth?”
This title is based around the idea of building a planetary federation by customizing and managing a fleet of star ships. You will be expected to research new technologies, explore, build a new federation. One could hope that this title may hearken back to Sid Meier’s Pirates.
