Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak will act as a prequel, telling to story of Rachel S’Jet. Longtime fans of the series will recognize her last name (In universe her Clan Name) as the same as the Fleet Commander Karen S’Jet from the original series. The relation between Rachel and Karen at this point is still unknown, but we can expect this to be revealed throughout the story.
In the game Rachel will lead a troop from the Coalition of the Northern Kiithid to investigate a strange anomaly found within the sands of the desert. Once again, fans of the original games, or the remakes, will recognize this as the story that leads to the discovery of the crashed mothership, and the stone that sets them on the original journey to Hiigara.

Blackbird Interactive is a company founded by veterans of the Homeworld franchise. Most notably Rob  Cunningham, CEO of Blackbird Interactive, was the primary Art Director of the original games, meaning we can expect to see the same sccenic combat as before updated with modern technology.

The game will not be space oriented, and instead will feature ground combat, breaking off from the other games in the series.  Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak will be released January 20th, 2016, and is available for preorder on Steam. Preordering the game now means getting a free copy of the Homeworld Remastered Collection, released earlier this year by Gearbox software.
