And you thought you were already addicted. The Euro Truck Simulator 2 rabbit hole goes much deeper. Long after releasing the Euro Truck Simulator 2 DLC entitled “Gone East,” which added thousands of miles of roadways to the expansive world that was already laid out, SCS Software have rebuffed their commitment to Euro Truck Simulator 2 with the recent announcement of their Scandinavian Expansion.
While the Scandinavian Expansion for Euro Truck Simulator 2 has been public knowledge for quite some time, 2015 has brought about a resurgence of both interest and news in both the franchise and what to expect of it moving forward. The Scandinavian Expansion of Euro Truck Simulator 2 hopes to add thousands of kilometers of roadways for gamers to explore and expand their entrepreneurial enterprises. Maps which were recently released by SCS Software show off the enormous breadth that the new expansion, with highways passing through Copenhagen and incorporating the landmark Øresund Bridge into Malmö, with routes to the Swedish capital of Stockholm to the Norwegian capital of Oslo, among many smaller locales in between. This is passable territory that would make any explorer in Stand Strong, Be Silent blush, and with good reason, as the unique landscape and geography of Northern Europe is sure to delight the slow-burn, voyeuristic pleasures of Euro Truck Simulator 2‘s humble truckers traversing the great north’s countryside, featuring stops from Kalmar to Bergen. The update will also feature prominent ports and ferry stops as is frequent to the Scandinavian population, allowing many a trucker a quick night’s rest on a long haul.
As if to spoil us, SCS Software has been teasing fans with screenshots of Euro Truck Simulator 2‘s new expansion. Latest from under their belt are a host of Swedish pictures from Örebro, a region that is considered complete and ready for release. Unsurprisingly, the scenery looks absolutely stunning, not to mention the other pictures recently released from various parts of the update. At this point, if any screenshot taken from Euro Truck Simulator 2 doesn’t look like a glamor-shot postcard of Europe, you should be highly disappointed. Spoiler: everything looks like a postcard.
This is great news for those who are revving their diesel engines in anticipation for the new DLC. Unfortunately for those fitting their freights, the Scandinavian DLC will not be due out until SCS Software says so, as a release date has not yet been set. However, SCS Software promises new peeks into their developments and new screenshots to gawk over. But let’s be real, everyone is drooling at the mouth over all this pure trucking beauty. This goes without mentioning that the recent one-hour drive through the alpha version of American Truck Simulator recently debuted to huge acclaim, looks as beautiful and engaging as expected, and also doesn’t have a release date. Not to mention that Euro Truck Simulator 2 just got an update for Mac compatible devices, meaning even more folks who are playing on countless Mac centric computers can now engage in the a quiet, calm drive through Europe. But seriously, throw us a bone, SCS! Or at least a freight job that is over 960km. Seriously, can’t someone request a job just a few kilometeres longer so we can earn that achievement? Obviously assuming we don’t bump into a car, but that’s beside the point.
