Today Bethesda posted a video to their YouTube channel, showing a rather adorable bit of behind the scenes footage for their upcoming blockbuster, Fallout 4.

In the video on this page, Bethesda show off just exactly how they got Dogmeat in Fallout 4 to react and respond the way he does. You know what I mean, the way he dashes off ahead of you, sniffing around for hidden treasure and just being down right adorable.

The video, titled ‘Fallout 4- Behind The Scenes with Dogmeat, introduces us to an incredibly adorable member of the Bethesda team. Meet River, the German Shepherd of Fallout 4’s lead level designer, Joel Burgess. Through work with the team at Bethesda Game Studios, River stars in Fallout 4 as the iconic canine companion, Dogmeat.

The video gives us an insight into how the actions of River in our real life world are almost exactly replicated by Dogmeat, as he wanders around the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Boston. It’s a very cute video, but also really quite insightful. It really show how Bethesda have gone to so much effort to motion cap the dog NPC. Even the way he crawls under tables and peers over high ledges has been motion captured. You really need to check out River in all his glory.

Bethesda didn’t just stop at capturing the movements of River either. Turns out the barks, whines and whimpering that you hear in Fallout 4 will also be from River. Step aside Troy Baker, you have competition.

Fallout 4 is due to release November 10 and is looking set to deliver on all the dreams and wishes of Fallout fans across the world. We can only hope that we’ll find a glitch in a space-time continuum between now and then so we can get playing it sooner.
