Mekiwates – Bloodborne and Dark Souls

Among the few Bloodborne cosplayers I could find, Mekiwates proved to be a consistently amazing and hardworking master of his craft. Perusing through his DeviantArt page provides incredible insight into how the costume was thought out and built over time – especially since the costume was built well before the game was released and was based on screenshots captured from the trailer. For example, he provides a series of concept photos detailing his progress in creating the sawblade and the blunderbuss here, here, and here. In a separate photo, Mekiwates shows his process in creating the iconic hunter’s hat.

As referenced in his recent blog posts, he shows no signs of stopping. Inspired by his gameplay experiences with Bloodborne, he has posted a list of additional weapons and props he is currently working on:

Few props that I’m currently working on.
– Burial Blade
– Gehrman’s Pistol
– Hunter’s Axe
– Hunter’s Pistol
– Meanwhile my Kirkhammer is still left un-finished (hope to finish it by 2 weeks or so)
– Father G’s costume
– Gehrman’s costume

Mekiwates has also devoted a considerable portion of his online portfolio showcasing WIP and convention photos of his equally impressive Knight Artorias cosplay from Dark Souls. Photos can be found at the following links: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Can’t wait to see his future works!

A Collaborative Effort – Beethy Photography, Stormcaller99, and Azmal (Samuel Lee)

Similar to multiplayer mode in the Souls games and Bloodborne, sometimes there just isn’t a good substitute for old fashioned teamwork. Incredible things can happen when talents and effort combine – and this is no less applicable to the team behind this Dark SoulsSir Artorias cosplay. This collaborative project was made possible by the photography talents of Beethy Photography, cosplaying and modeling by Stormcaller99, and impeccable armor and weapon-smithing by Azmal (Samuel Lee). The specific armor constructed for this photo can be found here, and let me say that its design and attention to detail is truly awe-inspiring. Great job, everyone!

Shyaku – Dark Souls II

Cosplayer Shyaku has done an incredible job in creating a highly accurate and astounding portrayal of Lonesome Gavlan from Dark Souls II. It’s as if he stepped right out of the video game into our world. In the selected photo above, Gavlan is posing at a Bloodborne booth with two other cosplayers: one of them a Desert Sorceress from Dark Souls II and the other a hunter from Bloodborne. It is unclear which convention is this taking place but the timestamp on Shyaku’s Instagram marks the event approximately 7 months ago which may narrow down the list. In any case, these cosplayers gave it their all and certainly delivered. Their commitment and talents of cosplayers such as these never ceases to amaze.

Shyaku has also posted additional photos of his fantastic cosplay on his Instagram here and here.

Jefferson_Loki – Bloodborne

Last but not least, we have a submission of a Bloodborne cosplayer who could perhaps be the same gentleman in the previous page. This photo was uploaded to the alvanista.com threads by a user named Jefferson_Loki, but it is unclear whether he is the photographer or the cosplayer in the photo. In any case, this gentleman’s costume is on point – from the duster, to the hat, right down to the meticulously detailed and painted weapons he is hefting. You have my utmost respect, good hunter!

Since the game is still relatively new, it is not too surprising to find few examples of Bloodborne cosplays. Nevertheless, this caveat only increases the amount of respect they’re due since these costumes were created with limited references materials at the onset of the first trailers. With many video game, comic book, and anime conventions on the horizon, more Bloodborne cosplays will surely reveal themselves. For a further look at the amazing Dark Souls costumes that have been done in the past, feel free to check out this compilation of cosplays posted by gamebreaker.tv.

Do you have a Bloodborne or Dark Souls inspired cosplay, or are you working on one? What costumes would you like to see in future conventions? Feel free to share below, dear hunters!
