Pokemon GO: How to Evolve Pokemon

This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

If you’re serious about catching them all, you’re going to need to know every trick in the book for Pokemon GO. Here’s how you can evolve your Pokemon.

On your adventures around the real world, you may have found a lot of Pokemon in their first form with one or two evolutions still waiting to be unlocked. Not all Pokemon evolutions are going to be easy to come across, with certain Pokemon being just as difficult to find in Pokemon GO as they are in the normal games in the franchise. Therefore, evolving will come in particularly handy for completing your Pokedex.

To evolve a Pokemon, first tap on the Pokeball at the bottom of the screen and then go to Pokemon. From here, select the Pokemon that you’d like to evolve. You should now see a Pokemon details screen, with an option to Evolve. Evolving your Pokemon doesn’t come free, unfortunately, and requires you to feed the creature enough of its candy in order to take the step up.

This candy can be acquired by heading to Pokestops, or by purchasing it through Pokemon GO’s Pokecoins which can be bought with real-life cash.

Don’t worry, though, you’ll pick up this candy as you go along so as long as you’re not in too much of a rush to evolve your Pokemon; you don’t have to get involved with the microtransactions if you don’t want to.

When you’ve got enough of the candy, simply hit the Evolve button and the process will begin.

That’s all there is to it. Have you evolved any Pokemon yet? Let us know in the comments below.
