Resident Evil 7: Biohazard’s critical acclaim has been matched by equally impressive sales performance, so far, topping the UK’s sales charts.
Capcom’s seventh numbered entry to the iconic survival horror franchise has claimed the number 1 spot, knocking Grand Theft Auto V down to second place – meaning that Rockstar’s hugely popular title misses out on joining an elusive list of 4 games that have managed 12 weeks at number 1 on the All Formats Top 40.
Launched on Jan. 24 across Xbox One, PS4, and PC, Resident Evil 7 has recorded the 3rd best week one sales in the series history,  just behind Resident Evil 5. Chart track also revealed that Capcom’s Resident Evil franchise is the publisher’s most successful brand in the UK and ranks inside the top 30 best selling franchise of all time (based on physical releases 1996 to 2016).
News of Resident Evil 7’s strong sales performance in the UK follows an official announcement made by Capcom last week in which the publisher stated:
“Solid start for latest title in Capcom’s flagship series; lauded for breaking new ground in horror entertainment”.
Capcom stated that it had shipped 2.5 million copies for Resident Evil 7’s opening week, which now puts the series at over 75 million units shipped in total since 1996. In October 2016, as part of its monthly earnings report, Capcom shared sales projections for the game, estimating that it would exceed 4 million by the end of the financial year.
Notably, below Grand Theft Auto V, the 4 new releases within the UK Top 40 are all PlayStation 4 exclusive –  Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, Yakuza 0, Tales of Berseria, and Digimon World: Next Order. It has also been reported the the Glacier White PlayStation 4 version has accounted for a quarter of the console’s total sales.
The UK chart standings, in full, are as follow:
- Resident Evil 7
- Grand Theft Auto 5
- Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter
- FIFA 17
- Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
- Rocket League
- Battlefield 1

As always, Chart-Track’s data does not include digitally downloaded sales.
