During Nintendo’s E3 Direct today, Grasshopper Manufacture and Marvelous Entertainment announced that No More Heroes III is indeed in development.
The game will be released in 2020 exclusively on Nintendo Switch and star the titular hero Travis Touchdown, taking place ten years after the original No More Heroes.
The trailer showcases classic No More Heroes gameplay fans have been clamoring for, with Travis’ signature wrestling moves and footage of him using a flashy new cyborg-like mech suit in battle. Though, this time it appears to be a new model that can easily transform and shift on and off Travis’ body. Maybe it’s a newly upgraded version of the Glastonbury created by Dr. Naomi?
We also see Travis fighting up in the sky on some kind of air battleship, so fans of the series can expect to explore new heights and fresh areas.
Here is some more information from the official press release for No More Heroes III:
Grasshopper Manufacture has announced a 2020 release date for No More Heroes III, a brand new entry in the No More Heroes franchise exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, during Nintendo’s E3 2019 Nintendo Direct video presentation. Taking place ten years after the original No More Heroes, No More Heroes III follows Travis Touchdown as he returns to his former home of Santa Destroy. There he encounters a huge artificial metropolis floating in the sea, and a mysterious flying object high above the city. What crazy dangerous assassins will he have to face in this strange new world?
”After the Nintendo Switch unveiling conference in 2017, we released Travis Strikes Again this year, and now we are finally able to make the dream of No More Heroes III a reality,” says director Goichi Suda, or Suda51. “We’re working hard on development day in and day out to ensure that NMHIII goes above and beyond the expectations of all the fans who have been waiting for the game for so long, and we’re going to be rolling it out in 2020. May the Switch be with you!”
In addition to Robin Atkin Downes and Paula Tiso returning to their roles as Travis Touchdown and Sylvia Christel, No More Heroes III features an all-new original score composed by musician and actor Nobuaki Kaneko of the band RIZE.
No More Heroes III is scheduled for an exclusive Nintendo Switch release in 2020. Please stay tuned for more information.
Previously Suda 51 had teased this announcement via a Twitter post in which he shared an image that resembles the star logo from the series in an acoustic sound wave style. This is most likely due to the fact that Suda loves old punk and rock music, as it’s very reminiscent of Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures album art.
He also posted another star logo again about forty minutes before the Nintendo Direct was about to start, this one is more refined and potentially the new star logo from the game.
Also released shortly after the announcement was both an official logo and some stylish looking artwork by Yusuke Kozaki (in the theme of America’s famous World War II “I Want You” poster originally created by James Montgomery Flagg) which you can view below:
Before this announcement, Suda 51 revealed that his previous title in the series, Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes would be coming to both PS4 and Steam.
We also know that the PS4 and PC versions of Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes will include new collaboration T-Shirts.
