Is Yakuza Kiwami 2 Coming to Xbox One?

The idea of roaming the streets of Japan and roughing up hoodlums with the pristine graphics provided by the Xbox One X certainly sounds like an enticing premise, but up to this point, Microsoft fans have been on the outside looking in for Sega’s brawler. Is Yakuza Kiwami 2 going to be the difference maker, bringing the series onto the Xbox One?

Unfortunately, they will remain unloved for the foreseeable future, with Kiwami 2 confirmed at this point to be a PS4 exclusive. Their reasons for besmirching the American console could come down to poor sales outside of the west, or it could stem from the early days of Yakuza: in a 2011 interview with Eurogamer, Yakuza lead Toshihiro Nagoshi mentioned the apathy surrounding their initial pitch, saying that, “Every platform holder was negative about this prospect, but we kept on pushing because we believed in the potential, and as we kept going one platform holder that showed interest and saw the prospects of this title was Sony.”

The gambit has been paying off for Sony ever since, with the series going on to sell over 10 million units in combined sales. Other than a Japan-only Wii U port of the original game and an upcoming spinoff for mobile devices, Yakuza has never left Sony’s watchful eye, and there’s no reason to expect this to change anytime soon.
