How to Get More Ship Orders in Valkyria Chronicles 4
Valkyria Revolution took the series in a different direction in 2017 with a focus on action combat, but Valkyria Chronicles 4 once again returns to the tried and tested strategy roots, while adding in a few changes. Valkyria Chronicles 4 takes place during the same time period as the very first Valkyria Chronicles, telling the story of Claude Wallace and Squad-E, an elite part of the Federation military fighting off the Empire. Just like the other games, an essential piece of your strategic repertoire in Valkyria Chronicles 4 is the use of Orders, commands you can use during battle to cause various effects or stat boosts. There’s something new in Valkyria Chronicles 4, however, known as Ship Orders. You’ll unlock Ship Orders about halfway through the game once Squad E has boarded the Centurion, and while you’ll initially only have access to one, you can unlock a few others. Here’s how to get more Ship Orders in Valkyria Chronicles 4.
When you first unlock ship orders in Valkyria Chronicles 4 you’ll only have the ability to use Radar in that mission, but you’ll see three other options greyed out for Bombardment, Rescue Squad, and Emergency Fix. To get access to these, you need to go to Headquarters, then select R&D, and finally Develop Ship Parts. This will let you use money to conduct research on ship parts, and buying the first option under each category will let you unlock that ship order. Buying further tiles in the category will power up the ship orders doing things like increasing the range of the Radar, increasing the damage from Bombardment, or boosting the amount of HP restored to vehicles by Emergency Fix.
Now, when actually using ship orders during battle in Valkyria Chronicles 4, you’ll be restricted to a certain amount of uses, which you’ll see in the ship orders menu. There are no ifs or buts for this, as in each mission you’ll only get access to the specified number of ship orders. However, you can increase this number for missions by doing R&D research and buying tiles that add one to the count, therefore giving you more ship order to use during battles. It’s also important to note that if the Hafen is destroyed in battle, you won’t be able to use ship orders, as Claude himself needs to be present in order to use them.
You already have a ton of different options available in Valkyria Chronicles 4, but it’s worth keeping ship orders in mind as they can be a huge boon if you find yourself in trouble.
