The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine – How to Get the Grandmaster Smith

This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

Newly introduced to The Witcher 3 through Blood and Wine is the Grandmaster Smith. This is the highest level craftsman in the game, capable of making Grandmaster Level gear (also introduced in Blood and Wine). Like all great things in The Witcher 3, you’ll need to earn the Grandmaster Smith by helping him with a simple task (I hope you’re ready for some fights).

First, you’ll have to locate the smith in his shop which is located in Toussaint. He isn’t far from the Nilfgaardian Embassy signpost. Just head east from there and you can see the shop right on the map (denoted by armor with a sword beneath it).  Talk to the shopkeep, Lafargue, and he will tell you about his training and dreams of becoming a Grandmaster. This is when the Secondary Quest “Master Master Master Master!” begins.

If you ask Lafargue about all of the Witchers that have disappeared he will provide you with a Scavenger Hunt for each set of upgraded gear, including the brand new Manticore Set. Now you’re halfway to having your very own Grandmaster Smith.

All you have to do now is complete any one of the Scavenger Hunts and return to the craftsman. This will unlock his ability to craft that set for you, both the armor and the weapons. His rates aren’t as high as you’d expect, probably because he’s just ecstatic to finally put his training to use. There are five sets in total, so make sure to collect them all in order to complete your collection.
