Smash Bros Ultimate is finally here and there’s plenty of new to discover, such as spirits and the snacks they so desperately crave. Here’s how to get snacks in Smash Bros Ultimate and what they do.

As you begin to explore the different modes within the game, you’ll find a menu option titled, “Spirits.” Selecting it will take you to a new menu that features options for the new World of Light Adventure Mode and the Spirit Board.

Regardless of which mode you decide to dive into, you’ll be earning spirits. They level up by being equipped in battle, but by feeding them snacks, you can level them up as well. In fact, it’s the primary method of leveling up your spirits.

To feed them though, you need to get some, naturally. To get them,  you basically need to play new Smash Bros Ultimate single-player modes.

In the World of Light Adventure Mode and in Spirit battles via the Spirit Board, you can earn snacks simply for beating your opponents. Similar to XP gained following a great win, the game will reward you with them every time you defeat an opposing character.

There’s also another way to earn them in the Adventure Mode for Smash Bros Ultimate. Scattered throughout the board, there are chests for you to find and open. Often, these chests will be filled with them, among other things.

The third and final way to earn snacks requires you to purchase them. Not with your real-world money, though, fortunately. Instead, you’ll be using SP (Spirit Points). Head to the shops scattered throughout the Adventure Mode and occasionally there will be some available for you to purchase.

You can also go to the Smash Bros Ultimate store where you can spend Gold you’ve earned from simply battling in the game. There will almost always be snacks available for you to purchase here.

To get to this shop, head to the Games & More screen by selecting the option on the main menu. This will take you to a new menu. Select the shop option and purchase all the snacks you so desire.

Once you’ve got your snacks, it’s time to level them up. They come in three different sizes: small, medium and large. These sizes determine how much XP each one will give.

That does it for how to get snacks and what they do in Smash Bros Ultimate. For more information about Super Smash Bros Ultimate, be sure to check out Twinfinite’s Smash Bros Ultimate Guide Wiki.
