Stuck between the Fighter and Scout combat profession in Stardew Valley? This guide will answer everything you need to know about the two professions, which has the better buffs, and what level 10 combat professions they can open up to you, so you can make a proper, informed decision.
Should You Pick Fighter or Scout in Stardew Valley?
First, here’s what both the Fighter and Scout profession do:
- Fighter – All attacks deal 10% more damage. +15 HP.
- Scout – Critical strike chance increased by 50%.
The Fighter’s buffs are pretty straightforward here. A 10% increase to all damage output is nothing to scoff at, and you’ll get 15 extra HP. Nothing major, but we’ll take it all the same.
The Scout’s 50% increased critical strike chance may sound huge, but it’s actually not. It’s a 50% buff of what you’ve currently got. So say your critical strike chance is 6%, you’ll get 50% of that as a buff, so your new critical strike chance is 9%.
That crit strike buff can come in handy if you have a bunch of items/ equipment that also increase your critical strike chances, but that’s using a lot of slots to just buff one slot.
We’d recommend you pick ‘Fighter’ over the ‘Scout’ profession when you begin leveling up, as it provides far more beneficial buffs to your damage output and health in the long term. These will come in far handier when clearing caves of monsters. Its level 10 Brute profession is also far more useful than basically any other combat profession in the game.
Level 10 Combat Professions in Stardew Valley Explained
When you reach level 10 combat, you’ll then have the decision to make between either the Brute or Defender professions if you chose ‘Fighter’ at level 5, or the Acrobat and Desperado professions if you chose Scout.
Fighter Professions
- Brute – Damage is increased by 15%.
- Defender – HP is increased by 25.
If you went for the ‘Fighter’ profession at level 5 as we recommended, then ‘Brute’ is the obvious choice here. The extra 25 HP from Defender just isn’t worth it when you’re at level 10, whereas the 15% increase to damage is just a solid, further buff to help you clear enemies faster.
Scout Professions
- Acrobat – Cooldown on special moves is cut in half.
- Desperado – Critical hits are deadly.
As for Scout, if you find yourself using specials a lot, then Acrobat is probably worth your time, but if you have a bunch of equipment that increases your chance of Critical Hits, then this is what you’ll want to go for. Neither of the level 10 scout professions really blow us away, which is why you should always pick Fighter over Scout in Stardew Valley.
