How to Get Out of the Brig in Sea of Thieves

Recommended Videos

Players have been sailing the waters in Sea of Thieves for a couple days now, and one element of Rare’s pirate adventure game that keeps getting mentioned is the brig. More specifically, how to get out of it. The short and more blunt answer, is that you can’t get out without messing up your current game.

In Sea of Thieves, players vote to lock one player in the brig who’s essentially being a nuisance to the rest of the group. While that’s the general idea and (sort of) works well in theory, it can be frustrating when you get locked in because you’re an unwanted fourth-wheel in a crew of friends. There’s no time limit to how long you can stay in the brig, unless the other crew members vote to let you out. As a victim of the brig myself, I waited twenty minutes and still hadn’t been freed, despite (or maybe because of) my pirate dancing for the crew.

Players have noted one way out of the brig is to restart your current game altogether. While not the most ideal scenario, the restart will hopefully put you with some non brig-loving players, so you can sail the seas in peace.

If we find another way out, we’ll let you know here, but for now you’re stuck unless you want to restart your game. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Sea of Thieves fans! For more tips, tricks, and information on the game, be sure to check out our ever-expanding wiki.
