Safes are scattered all around the world and are home to some pretty valuable items. They’re a great way for you to get some extra cash, and who doesn’t want that in a world where you can easily get a bounty for hitting a dog with your horse. Here’s how to open safes in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Opening Safes in Red Dead Redemption 2
You’ve probably seen these lockboxes on your journey a few times but can’t find a way to pry them open. Some NPCs might even be trying to open these themselves but to no avail.
Luckily, you won’t need to go hounding for any special keys or passwords to open safes in Red Dead Redemption 2. Instead, you can just do it the old-fashioned way: bust the safes open.
Guns won’t be very effective, however, as you’ll need better items to blow them up.
If you have a stick of dynamite in your inventory, light it up and throw it at any of the safes you find. This item should have enough force to completely destroy them, save for any items inside.
If you have a fire bottle, you can also throw them at the safes to open them in Red Dead Redemption 2. The same goes for knives or tomahawks you might have, as well. Simply throw these sharp objects at the lockbox until you manage to pry them open.
However, the best way to open safes in Red Dead Redemption 2 is just by blowing them up. That said, make sure you stock up on dynamite before you plan on looking for lockboxes in the game.
Where to Get Dynamite
If you’re low on dynamite in Red Dead Redemption 2, you can buy some at the Gun Store in town. Otherwise, you can head back to camp and stock up on more supplies there.
When you’re using dynamite to open lockboxes in Red Dead Redemption 2, you’ll want to use L1 to bring up your inventory and look for the weapon wheel. From there, use L2/R2 to cycle through your equipment and look for the dynamite.
Make sure to find a safe location before throwing your item. Standing too close means you’ll get caught up in the explosive, and you really only want to target any lockbox in the area. Once you’ve managed to open one, you can grab items, such as money, inside.
That’s pretty much everything you need to know about opening safes in Red Dead Redemption 2. For more tips and tricks on the game, be sure to check our extensive Red Dead Redemption 2 guide wiki.
