How to Fix PS4 Pro Black Screen Flickering Issue

Recommended Videos

If you’ve got a shiny, powerful PS4 Pro sitting next to your TV, you’ll likely be enjoying all of the 4K content or extra tiny details the system is capable of cramming onto your 1080p display. However, some PS4 Pro owners have been suffering with a black screen flickering issue sometimes when using their PS4 Pro.

The black screen flickering issue can seemingly be put down to one of a few different causes. First, if you have a PSVR and have the little additional junction box plugged in with all the HDMIs, unplug it. This not only stops your HDR from working (if you’ve got a first gen PSVR that is), but it has a tendency to cause the image on screen to disappear completely, leaving a black screen, before returning seconds later.

If you’re not a PSVR owner and are still having the black screen flickering issue with your PS4 Pro, you’ll next want to dive into the settings and head to the Display Output settings menu. From here, you should be able to see the Video Output option. If you’re using a TV with HDMI 1.4, you’ll want to have the 2160p YUV420 option available as this is a compatibility setting of sorts for older 4K displays. If you’re running a newer 4K display with HDMI 2.0, you’ll want to select the 2160p RGB mode instead.

Failing that, there is another setting you can check out within the Display options, and that’s the HDCP Setting. If this is switched to on and you’re getting the black screen flickering on your PS4 Pro, switch it to off. Some users have noted there seems to be a compatibility issue with certain TVs or monitors.

And if all of those don’t work, try switching out the HDMI cable in case there’s any damage or a faulty connection inside.

Hopefully, one of these different methods will fix the PS4 Pro black screen flickering issue that players have reported. For more on everything video games, be sure to search for Twinfinite.
