Pokemon Sword & Shield: How to Evolve Galarian Darumaka Into Darmantian

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

If you’re looking to catch ’em all, as the Pokemon catchphrase so desperately tells us we should be doing, then you’re going to need to get your hands on a Galarian Darumaka in Pokemon Sword and Shield, as well as its evolution Darmantian. Unfortunately, Darmantian can’t be found in the wild, so you’ll need to evolve it from the region’s Darumaka variant.

To catch a Galarian Darumaka, you’ll need to be playing Pokemon Sword. If you’re playing Pokemon Shield, you’ll need to get a friend who has Sword to transfer you one.

Darumaka can be found on Routes 8 and 10 and is an Ice-type Pokemon. Ice Pokemon are weak to all kinds of other types, so you shouldn’t have trouble bringing its health down, just be careful not to knock it out. Have False Swipe handy if you’re having a hard time.

Evolving Galarian Darumaka in Pokemon Sword & Shield

Once you’ve got a Galarian Darumaka, it’s simply a case of finding an Ice Stone. You don’t need to reach a particular level with your Darumaka for it to evolve, as long as you’ve got an Ice Stone that’s all you need.

The easiest way to get an Ice Stone is to go to the Lake of Outrage. You can get here by heading to the Hammerlocke Hills section of the Wild Area, just south of the Hammerlocke town itself.

Once here, head right (if you’ve got your back to Hammerlocke) and look out for the lake of water to cross. Use your Rotom Bike once you’ve got the upgrade on Route 9 after beating the sixth gym to cross the water and follow the path up to Lake of Outrage.

Here, you’ll find a bunch of rocks protruding from the ground in a circle. Head over to these, and at the foot of each stone you’ll find one of each different evolution stone in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Pick up the Ice Stone, go to your Bag, and use it on Galarian Darumaka to evolve it into Darmantian.

Remember that when you evolve using a stone, you stunt a Pokemon’s growth in terms of learning new moves while leveling up. So try and make sure you learned all the moves you want to learn before giving up the Ice Stone.
