Pokemon Sun and Moon: How to Get a Red Card

This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

Pokemon Sun and Moon returns with all of that battling fun you could possibly want. With it comes the items that you can make your Pokemon hold onto. The Red Card, in particular, can be very useful for some player versus player action.

When the Red Card is held, whenever that Pokemon is hit by an attack, that opposing Pokemon is recalled and forced to leave the battlefield. It can be pretty good for making sure some super effective type gets right the heck out of the battle, and gives your team more time to do some damage on the opposing team.

In order to get this Red Card, you have to first defeat all of the trainers in Route 3. As you make way down the route, towards back to Route 1, you will see a tall, blonde-haired guy right before a bridge. Talk to him and he will challenge you to a tougher battle than the other trainers you faced. Note that if you haven’t beaten all of the trainers yet, he’ll tell you to go beat them before you both can fight.

He will show you exactly how Red Card works as both of the Pokemon on his team are holding it, so keep in mind that whoever attacks them first will be recalled back into your hand. You can, of course, put them back into the battlefield, but it will cost you turns. Welcome to the intricate strategy found in Pokemon tournaments. Once you’ve defeated him, he’ll give you your very own Red Card. Congratulations!
