Here’s how to get this fun new evolution for one of the most uninteresting Pokemon in series history.

Evolving Basculin in Pokemon Legends Arceus

Basculin, until recently, was one of the most forgettable Pokemon in history. For years, it has been a boring below-average Water-type, one of many, with essentially nothing unique about it. Even Qwilfish at least had a somewhat unique and strong typing. Its need to exist was questionable.

Pokemon Legends Arceus though has finally given Basculin a reason to live. Basculin has finally received an evolution that makes it a far more interesting Pokemon with increased base stats. More importantly, though, it has graduated from just being yet another Water-type, to carrying the somewhat rare Water/Ghost pairing which is quite solid and at the very least, more interesting to use.

Basculin doesn’t just evolve on its own though, like other Pokemon, you have to do something a bit unique to get it to evolve into Basculegion.

Getting Recoil Damage

To evolve Basculin, gain access to move that does recoil damage to Basculin. At level 34, Basculin will learn Wave Crash. Make sure to change your moves so you actually have it equipped.

From there, all you need to really do is use Wave crash a bunch of times until you’ve done enough damage to yourself. Seems counterintuitive but that’s how it works. Basculin has to earn that Ghost-type the hard way. Either way, once you’ve hit the threshold, estimated to be about 300 damage, you’ll have the option to evolve.

  1. Level Basculin to Level 34 and learn Wave Crash

  2. Master Wave Crash

  3. Use Wave Crash until you deal 300+ points of recoil damage to yourself

  4. Evolve Basculin into Basculegion

Basculegion boasts high attack and HP, and decently spread stats all around aside from those two. Definitely take advantage of its signature move, Wave Crash, which is a unique and powerful physical Water attack in Pokemon Legends Arceus. Do mind the recoil damage though.
