How to Empower an Ability or Spell in Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire

Recommended Videos

Combat in Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire can be tricky especially if you’re playing on the higher difficulties where micromanaging is a must. One important tool at your disposal to give you in an edge in close/tough fights is empowering. You can either empower a specific ability or spell, or you can empower yourself. Empowering an ability or spell allows it to operate at a much higher level and makes it way more powerful. Great for an emergency heal, or for a big spike in damage. Alternatively, you can empower yourself, which restores all of your resources. If you’re stuck in a long fight and need resources more than you need a big spike of damage or healing, use that instead.

Either way, to empower anything in Pillars of Eternity 2, you’ll need to enter combat and click on the character’s portrait to access their action bar. From there, click the orange swirly * looking icon. The number that is there is the number of empowers you have left. You need to either rest at an inn or use food or drink in order to earn them back. After you’ve clicked that, click on the spell/ability that you want to empower and then use it as you normally would. Or if you’re empowering yourself, click the empower button and then click your portrait.

That’s all you need to know for empowering abilities and spells in Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire. Be sure to search Twinfinite for more PoE 2 guides and tips.
