How to Change Difficulty in Pikmin 3

When you first boot up Pikmin 3 Deluxe on your Nintendo Switch and pick your first save file, the game will ask you to choose between three difficulty modes.

Normal is the easiest option and is described as “a sweet and frothy difficulty suited for any fan of the series, but especially beginners.”

The next option is Hard and for those pro players out there who “might savor the sour tang of challenge.”

And the last option is called Ultra-Spicy and it’s described as being “titillatingly difficult.” This one will actually be greyed out and unable to be chosen until you complete Hard mode at least once.

Once you choose your difficulty option, you will not have to be stuck with it for the entire game.

Just go back to your save file in the main menu and then hit the ZR button to change difficulty. You can only change it from this menu and not during a mission in Pikmin 3 Deluxe.

It’s worth noting that if you change difficulty before clearing the story mode, you won’t earn a badge for Story Cleared. Just wanted to point that out in case you’re a completionist.

And that’s all you need to know about how to change difficulty in Pikmin 3. If you’re looking for more tips and tricks, just search Twinfinite. You can also read our scored review here.
