Oswald is the fourth character you’ll get to play as in Odin Sphere Leifthrasir. He’s been gifted with a powerful Psypher sword called the Belderiver, and he lives to serve his foster father, the fairy Melvin. He believes that he was abandoned by his biological parents, and he lives life without a true sense of self or purpose, only finding solace in the hope that he is aiding Melvin in his ambitions.

Oswald is a very swift attacker, and his unique property is that he can enter a state called Berserk Mode. This allows him to move faster and attack quicker. His attacks also become a lot stronger in this state. It’s very easy to build up the Berserk meter, so I highly recommend using it whenever you can, especially during boss fights.

Skills

Vile Rush is one of the first skills you’ll unlock for Oswald in Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, and it’s a pretty handy one at that. It allows Oswald to perform forward slashes that gradually intensify. This is a great skill for staggering bosses, and it also helps with large mobs. One thing to note is that Oswald can occasionally overshoot enemies with Vile Rush, but you can rectify this by holding back on the D-pad so get him to perform his final slash in that direction.

Serpent Grief is another skill you’ll definitely want in your arsenal. This skill conjures black flames that leap forward from the ground. Again, this one is good for mobs, and setting up air juggles. The black flames will usually strike from below, launching your enemies into the air, allowing you to jump up and perform an air combo.

If you enjoy using Berserk Mode, I recommend putting points into Extent of Madness as well. This is a passive skill that increases the duration of Berserk Mode. The increment goes up with each level, so it’s wise to level this up as soon as you can to get the most out of it.

As with all five characters in Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, make sure to unlock Recovery Up, Charge Up, and Power Supply to keep your POW and HP up. Oswald has three very useful abilities that I recommend getting as soon as you’ve got the basic recovery abilities unlocked.

Dark Charge will double your POW recovery speed during Berserk Mode, Dark Embrace will nullify all status effects during Berserk Mode, and Dark Armor will decrease damage received by half during Berserk Mode. Needless to say, these three abilities will greatly enhance Oswald’s Berserk Mode and make him nearly invincible while in this state. These will also allow you to perform skill attacks consistently because of your high POW recovery speed. If you have the Vampiric Ring equipped, going into Berserk Mode will allow you to recover a lot of HP without having to resort to using a Healing Tonic as well.

Shadow Step can also be a useful ability for Oswald, though it’s not necessary. This ability allows you to warp to any direction, which can be handy if you need to make a quick escape from a boss combo, or if you’re trying to flank enemies. It’s useful, but I recommend getting the Berserk Mode abilities first to give Oswald all the physical power he can get.
